Vacant land seized

Mon 20 Apr 2009—Commune initiates 845 proceedings against those who do not clean their land ... show/hide

­­The Directorate of Revenue of the City Council initiated the inspection of vacant lots in the city, 35 of which have been seized. Over 835 are in the process of execution, after a series of warnings and invitations to their owners to fulfill their obligation to clean them, informed the head of the Legal Department Hacendaria Hector Rodrigo Lopez Sansores.

Fri 17 Apr 2009—Fire-fighting continues in Q. Roo: fires still active, 26 ... show/hide

The State Committe to Fight Forest Fires reported a total of 26 active fires and 46 extinquished , with a little more than seven thousand hectares of medium forest, bushes and mangrove involved. At the session held at the facilities of C-4 of Cancun, which was attended by secretary of Agricultural Development, Rural and Indigenous (Sedari), Victor Sanchez and municipal presidents of Lázaro Cárdenas, Clementino Cupul Angulo, and of Isla Mujeres, Alicia Ricalde Magaña. They agreed to team up for providing equipment for the fire fighting in those areas, where it has been indicated four thousand five hundred hectáreas are involved.

The number of active fires in Quintana Roo increased to 26 and the damaged area is estimated to exceed 5 thousand hectares, with more than 700 soldiers working on their control and elimination, including elements of the Mexican Army and Navy. The board of fire fighting and control reported that there is no population at risk from fires out of control.

MEXICO, April 14 .- The Ministry of Health (SSA) warned of the increasing dengue cases in the country, nearly three thousand cases confirmed so far in 2009 but no deaths. Last year there were two thousand 500 cases and 25 deaths.

Rise in profits

Restaurant crowds benefited the community of Laguna Gerrero, a town that, after reporting a big drop in sales, had this past weekend, an influx of visitors and a rise in the profits of the eating places located there.

Restaurants dedicated to the sale of drinks, fish and seafood there said that after a decline of sales from January, last weekend was the best so far in 2009, stating that the population spilled over Friday, Saturday and Sunday from an early hour to enjoy the dishes of the places, taking advantage of ideal weather conditions.

Heat exhaustion has become a major concern for the health authorities om the three levels of government, since this conditioncan cause sudden death for people who are exposed to direct sunlight for prolonged periods

In this regard, the State Civil Protection director Luis Carlos Rodriguez Hoy, said that although the temperatures for the period April to July will hardly exceed 40 degrees centigrade in the state, the temperature on some parts of the coast could exceed 42. In coordination with the health sector they are distributing leaflets and campaigning in the media encouraging people to stay hydrated.

Long wait at Infovir

The 12 invasive families living in precarious conditions in the facilities of Expofer Chetumal marched on the offices of the delegation of the Institute for Promotion of Housing (Infovir) yesterday morning to demand from officer Julio Cesar Saury Galué a response to their requests for land.

It is recalled that on February 9 the 12 families living in a property allegedly owned by the Heritage Institute of Public Administration (IEEP) in Calderitas clashed with the State Preventative Police (PEP) to who were trying to force their eviction. After several hours of "negotiations", the military withdrew from the site located at Corozal street and Tomas Aznar of Cologne Proterritorio Extension.

Water sales up

High temperatures recorded in this season of drought have resulted in Chetumal establishments of purified water increasing their sales. This is the case with the "Agua Azul" which recorded an increase of 25 percent, from 350 demijohns sold in the past months, they now sell up to 600 cylinders, said José Luis Martínez Lorenzo, who is in charge of the establishment.

Cool Sunday

The lack of funds prevented most of the Chetumal people from going to the tourist destinations in the tourist zones of the Costa Maya and other places around the state, but it was not enough reason to stay home. People packed into "Dos Mulas" in the town of Calderitas.

Also, since the early hours of yesterday, hundreds of families crammed into the bathing places located on Chetumal Bay Boulevard. Many came on foot, others in rental cars, and some even in their own cars.
