Persistent Strike by Sugarcane Farmers in Belize

Despite the appeal of the prime minister, Dean Barrow, to avert the strike which started 10 days ago, members of the Association of Sugarcane Growers in Belize remain posted on the outskirts of Belize Sugar Industries Ltd and announced that they will remain until the present system of sampling the quality of the cane is canceled and the resignation of the commissioner of the sugar industry, Nemencio Acosta, takes place.

Over the weekend the price of petrol increased in the Free Zone of Belize and now the regular, which is equivalent to the Magna Sin, is priced more expensive than in Chetumal. However, this does not motivate the attempts to suspend approval of prices.
